Heart of Darkness

“He cried out twice, a cry that was no more than a breath: “The horror! The horror!”
Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad

I personally wasn’t that big of a fan of Heart of Darkness compared to some of my classmates, but what a tragic, fitting last sentence for Kurtz. And what irony to think that, for someone who carried the power of eloquence and had “the gift of expression,” his last words were merely a repetition of two simple, although poignant, words.

  1. I loved Heart of Darkness, but only after reading it three times in a row. For a small book, it is really thick and hard to really grapple with and figure out, I found. But that’s what I liked about it, ultimately.
